Elias Gekhiere (1991 Hasselt, BE): “I’m a painter using photography, drawing, and recently sculpture as a source for my paintings. Working with arthistorical archetypes or derivates I try to employ a creative strategy that functions as a silent escape or protest towards periodical thinking in art. What is the roll of the artist (and the concept of identity) in contemporary art? In a society where every act of generating is considered a political act – how is the artist able to be a‐political? In a ray of subjects the only consistency is the void within the subject ‐ the lacking of an inserted meaning, the resistance towards opinion making.”
